Joel's second birthday! I have a few thoughts about celebrating his birthday that I'll (hopefully) share in another post. This post is all about our big guy!!! He's two! And its the first birthday that we get to celebrate with him here with us!
Here are some things about our Joel (get ready for some serious cute-ness):
Joel loved playing in the pool this summer. Bless him, his little lip and forehead sweat like crazy when he gets in the sun. It's adorable.
-He sings ALL the TIME!!! If he is by himself, he's singing. If he's playing, he's singing. He loves music.
-His favorite song is The Veggie Tales Theme Song. He gets extra loud in the "broccoli" part and says "va-va-va-va..." at the never ever been a show like veggie tales part. He probably sings this song 20 times a day. I wish that were an exaggeration. He gets excited when others sing songs with him.
First baseball game. Go Bats!
-He sings This Little Light of Mine, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Jesus Loves Me and probably some others I can't think of cause all I really ever hear is Veggie Tales!-When he sings, he doesn't really say the words exactly, but more the sounds and the tones. He's amazing at it!
He can wiggle his little arm out of the carseat unless we make it super tight!
-He sometimes will just do a run through of people in his life. "Echie, Ha-ha, Mi-mi" or "Mamaw, Papaw, Sam, Riley, Unca Tom, Becky" or "Nana, Papa, Li (liz), Unca Cadon, Er-ka" or "Ja-bap (Jacob), Skyla, No-ee, Sa-wah, Becca, Thomas, Zach, Pachee, Daddy" (these are some of the kids in our youth group, and for some reason he always throws Daddy in with them!) We do this a few times each day.
-"Mom, mommy, mom, mommy, mommy, mom, mom, mommy, mom, mommy..." You get the picture. Yes, I have one of those kids. Hilarious.
-He loves to tease. If someone tries to say hello to him, he will smile and turn his head away and cut his eyes up at them. He's not shy. He's a mess!
-He squeals like a girl when you tickle him. He gets this from his cousin Riley-anna.
-He can copy ANY sound you make with your mouth and probably do it better than you can. He can do frog noise from his throat that E and I cannot do, and can do this fast rolling of his D's that reminds me of some tribal war chant.
Couldn't resist this adorable pic with his sis and cousins eating ice cream.
-He loves to make silly noises. He loves to hide things and say "oh-no!" with his cute little arms out like where did it go? He loves to hold little things in his hands. He loves to find little pieces of garbage on the floor.-He loves to be chased. I hear lots and lots of giggles when he and Big Sis chase each other through the house.
-He loves trucks and sticks. Those are probably his favorite things on earth.
He always stands like this with his little hands behind his back.
-He loves to play imaginary catch. (And real catch, but that's not as interesting.)-He doesn't like to color very much.
-He likes puzzles.
-He can sit in his room forever and play by himself.
This is the REAL smile. When you see the upper gums. LOVE!
-He's a champ at annoying his big sis. And loving her, I should add. He loves his big sis, and he is incredibly loved by his big sis. She loves to make him smile!-He is SO very happy when he wakes up. Also when he is eating. :)
-He loves to eat fruit. Grapes, bananas, oranges, strawberries. He loves yogurt, oatmeal, cookies, cheetoes, and katchup. He doesn't love bigger pieces of meat unless they are mixed in with something else.
-He is incredibly gross when he eats because he chews with his front teeth and chews with his mouth open.
-He cannot sit still ever. When I tell him to chew with his mouth closed, he'll close his mouth, but then he starts moving his shoulders up and down. It is rather comical! He really cannot sit still.
A precious end to Joel's terrible first time at the lake. I mean terrible.
-He loves to be outside.-His smile will LIGHT up the room and melt your heart.
-He laughs really loudly (fake), when others laugh, and will show much concern when others are sad or crying.
Practicing the jump shot. Please no contract offers. We're focusing on education!
-He randomly will come over and kiss my knees, or my arm, or my shoulders, or all over my face.-He says, "I...You!" which means I love you. He also says, Luh you, mommy, or Luh you, daddy.
-He likes to watch Micky Mouse Clubhouse and Curious George. He says, "Oh Toodles!" often. He sometimes will say "Oh, Papaw!" or "Oh, Mommy!" ect. to the same tune of "Oh Toodles!"
-He's a cryer. He's emotional. He has an attitude and is so incredilby stubborn.
-He's an explorer. He is unafraid.
No really. He's a mess. Really.
-He loves Zeke (our dog). He waves at him and says, "Hey, Zeke," everytime we get out of the car at home. He has this precious little wave where he sticks out his arm and waves his hand around like crazy.-He's a great helper. He likes to sweep the floors, wipe the tables, and unload the dishwasher.
-He is incredibly social, but gets a little weepy if mommy tries to leave the scene.
Must have cupcakes for birthdays.
-He is a ladies man. Little girls and shall we say mature ladies can't get enough of his cheeks, and his eyes, and his hair and his eyelashes... man, those eyelashes! He loves every second of it!
-He can jump with both feet off the ground. He bends down as far as he can with his hands on his knees, then does his little jump. So cute.
-He does this funny skip/gallop.
-He cannot stay out of trouble.
Blowing out the candle.
Joel, you are a delight and a joy. You have challenged us in ways we needed to be challenged and have brought us so much amusement in the process. We cannot look at you on the swing set, or in our church, or sleeping in your bed, without thinking about how THANKFUL we are that you are here and that you are ours. We pray that you will be a strong man of God! That you will represent Christ with your amazing love for others. That your stubborness will make you even more of an asset for the kingdom of God. We hope that your confidence will help you proclaim boldly the truth of salvation (and adoption) to those who are in darkness. We pray that you will gladly let God lead you in life.
A tear and a smile. Yep, that's pretty normal.
*(A side note: When I do these posts about Big Sis, then I'm usually full of "Awww's" and overall endearment toward my daughter at how precious she is. When doing this post about Jolie-Joel, I'm full of snickering and giggles at how crazy he is. I found this difference in emotions interesting, but even more interesting is that the amount of love for each of my distinctly different kids is equally overwhelming. What a joy to my heart to be a mom to a girl AND a boy!)
