As we were studying Colossians, it was pointed out at the end of chapter 3 that there are a few verses that mention thankfulness (3: 15-be thankful, 16-with thankfulness, 17-giving thanks). This carried over into my study of chapter 4 when I got to verse 2 where it says “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” So the thankfulness showed up again.
I am a fan of Ann Voskamp and have been thinking more on her joy dare, where you find 3 things each day for which you are thankful. Well, today’s topic for the joy dare is "3 Gifts in Summer” and in the spirit of being beat over the head with the idea of giving thanks… here are mine for the day (with pictures, thank you very much).
1). Grapes in our back yard—with memories of summers past playing under the grapevine at Granny’s house. You have to squeeze out the grapes (these aren’t your normal store bought grapes, people!), chew briefly or swallow whole (they’re so sour), then squeeze the peeling so that you can get the sweetness out of it. Joel was not a fan, Eliah gave it a good try.
2). Feet getting wet in the creek—2 brown feet and 2 white feet and all 4 feet loving every second! Enjoying God’s creation.
3). Garden goodness—Every good and perfect gift is from above…James 1:17
And a side note… speaking of prayer, we’re also reading A Praying Life by Paul Miller. Continue steadfastly in prayer…
