Why Adopt? Question 3

An Open Look into the Sutton Family's Decision to Adopt--Question

3). Why adopt internationally? Aren't there children in America who need homes?

Yes, of course there is a need for children from America to be adopted. Please know that our reasons for adopting internationally are very specific to our family! Let me first explain our desires. We wanted to adopt a baby and we wanted to get that baby here as quickly as possible. When you adopt domestically (from the US), you have to make up a portfolio of your family and then the birth moms who are choosing life and choosing adoption for their babies get to pick their criteria of what sort of family they want their babies to be a part of (and rightly so, in my opinion!). Because of this, we might have been chosen right away OR we might have been chosen years from now! The "right away" sounded great, but the "years from now" didn't fit into our dream for our family. Another piece of advice we were given pushed us even more toward international. We were advised that in a lot of cases, the birth moms choose families that do not have any children already. Since we had already been blessed with our precious Eliah, we felt that it might make our time frame even longer for a domestic adoption. Just another way we feel that God pushed us in the direction we have taken.
