When we got up on Wednesday, we were hoping to be able to get a driver and take a road trip outside the city to see a big waterfall and a baboon colony. There were no drivers available, so we decided we'd save that adventure for our next trip to Ethiopia. We spent the morning just hanging out at the guesthouse and enjoying our son and the friends we had met there. These are a few pictures from the third floor balcony at our guesthouse.
A couple that we met (Jeremy and Kelly) who was adopting a 3 yr old BEAUTIFUL girl were going to do some shopping and going out to dinner and invited us to come along (and Kristy, Lucy and Carolyn). We were afraid to intrude, but I'm so glad we went with them because we had a blast! Jeremy and Kelly had been to Ethiopia before and gotten connected with this guy, Busy (what we Americans called him--a short form of his Ethiopian name), through an outreach called Project 61 (more about it later). Anyway, Busy was our driver for the day. He was AMAZING! Every time he talked to us, he quoted Scripture. He LOVED the Lord and LOVED sharing the Gospel with anyone he came in contact with. We were amazed, and challenged, and humbled and so thankful for his love for Jesus.Busy drove us around in a van that was not like these. :) These are the "taxis." People will be PACKED into these. During the busy times, you would usually see people hanging out of the windows. This one just happened to have a cool nike swoosh on it.
We all went shopping at the "post office". We later learned that this area was called the post office because it was near the actual post office. There was lots of traditional clothing, t-shirts, scarves, rugs, bowls, art made out of banana leaves, animal figures... We ended up getting a picture to hang on Joel's room for about $8.00 and decided we'd have a list of things we wanted to get for our next trip (if any).
The friends we were with were trying to find a good deal on a wooden chair and we got to see some more of the city because of their search. It was so much to take in and I wanted to get pictures of EVERYTHING, but that is just impossible! We stopped at a little wood working shop and these men were just resting outside.
An entrance to someone's home... The kid was trying to get out of the picture. A lot of people didn't want their picture taken. I tried to be respectful of this and only get people when they weren't looking. ;)

Notice the two men holding hands. Ethiopian people are very affectionate and often you would see men and women holding hands or walking with their arms around each other.
Finally after all the shopping and sight seeing, we ended up at this restaurant called the Island Breeze. I have to admit we were a little turned off by their signage! Turns out this is just the entrance to the parking area and not the actual restaurant.
They had a really cool brick oven (again, the man didn't want to be in the picture). The food was AMAZING here! We had some delicious chips and salsa! The company was great and the food was great. Even here, Busy shared the gospel with our waitress!
We had a wonderful time and were pretty worn out by the time we got back to the guesthouse. We had been so encouraged by the people we were with. What a great day to spend with our son and people who love Jesus!
